Forklift Basics
Forklifts are really handy equipment. The equipment are usually small vehicles with numerous attachments which allow it to move and lift loads. Factories and warehouses all over the world will utilize forklifts. The operator of a forklift must acquire special training, specially since these machines operate on rear-wheel drive and this can be hard to get used to until one is familiar with it. As the forklift carries its load at the front, the center of gravity is always shifting and this results in the machinery being frequently unstable.

Parts
Typically, a lift truck driver generally sits in an area referred to as the "cat." This particular area provides metal protection which stretches overhead similar to a roof. On the front of the machine, the mast is located. The mast is the mechanism that lowers and raises the load using hydraulic cylinders.

Forklift Components
When looking for information about lift truck components and aftermarket forklift components, it is a good idea to check out the Internet or your local phone book. Numerous places provide various forklift accessories, support products and forklift components.

Structural Components
The overhead guard is part of the top portion of the forklift, while the foot guard separates the load from the cabin. A counterweight is located at the back of the forklift and is installed there that allows you to keep the machinery from falling over.

The blades and Apron
Typically, the load apron is responsible for keeping the load positioned while the forks, or metal arms, support the load. The blades can be tilted in order to balance the load. This is done with the hydraulic hoist arm and the tilting ram that powers the upward movement of the fork.

The Lift Structure
The load apron guard extends above the apron. It works to keep the cargo stable when the tines carry it along the track of the arms of the upright.

Mechanics
The forklifts internal combustion engine enables the power to be sent to the machinery wheels, providing the forklift with movement. The wheels have brakes installed in order to allow the driver the chance to stop or slow down the equipment as required.

Controls
Lifting loads is operated with hoist controls which are located inside the cat. The lift truck is driven by using the steering wheel to turn, similar to a car or truck.

Load Rating Plate
This plate is situated in the cabin. This load rating plate details the weight restrictions for each specific forklift.
